Rockin' Baby Hats

Ok-so I've been working very hard to make Gubby a hat for Christmas-first I made it WAY too small and it fit Emmy, then I made it a bit too small and it fit our friend Will, now I think I've got it down...and the best part, you ask? Because of my errors, the pattern below has directions for multiple sizes!!

Rockin' Baby Hats
sizes-0-3mo., 3-9mo., toddler, and youth

Style 1: Pom-pom punk rocker
Style 2: Mohawk metalhead

notions:
US 5 circular needles
US 8 circular needles
additional size 8 straight needle
variety of worsted weight yarn
blunt eyed needle
two open stitch markers

Using US 5 circs, CO 64 (72, 76, 84) sts in primary color. Join in round careful not to twist-place marker at beginning of row, and knit one round

Work k2, p2 ribbing around, placing marker after 32 sts (36, 38, 42)continue ribbing for 6 (6, 8, 8) rows.

Change to US 8 circs, work stockinette st for 6 (6.5, 7.5, 8.5) inches. Use this opportunity to do some neat color work or wording-you can also use fun fur/eyelash yarn along with your main color for a cool effect.

Pom-pom punk rocker:

Fold circs in half to prep for 3 needle cast off (can also turn inside out and use 3 needle cast off to create Kitchener stitch on exterior-i.e., no seam)

pom-poms: using multiple (at least 2 or 3) strands of yarn (from color work pattern or neat fun fur styles), wrap yarn around your knuckles approx. 20 times leaving 3 inch tail at beginning and four inch tail at end (past your hand...assure these tails are the same color as the primary color of the hat so they weave in blindly)-thread blunt eyed needle and wrap yarn perpendicular to pom pom (thread it through your middle finger and ring finger space a few times catching all the yarn you wrapped)tie tightly with 3 inch tail from beginning. Repeat twice for pom-pom punk rocker style and affix tightly to top seams of hat weaving in tails.

Mohawk metalhead:

Fold circs in half to prep for 3 needle cast off-use seam created to affix multiple pom-poms evenly across top of hat-you'll need at least 6 for the smallest size and 7 or 8 for each larger size depending on the 'girth' and length of your desired mohawk.
