Feeling kinda eck.
Well-I don't have much to report other than we've successfully conquered the stomach bug (all four of us-whew) and finally completed the laundry associated with that battle...and now we're onto the flu. Fun! Runny noses, coughs, and overall 'ecks'-hopefully we'll be on the mend soon.

Fa, la, la, la, la....la, la, la, la!
I know it's January but gimme a break! The holidays are busy for everyone, especially with kids! (And yes, there are still lingering Christmas decorations in my house-primarily garland and nightlights). I'll give a really quick update and then, of course, on to the media!
Emmy is growing like an, um, elephant! She's a ton of fun! She went from sitting up to pulling up on Mike's birthday (November 7) and then from pulling up to walking with a walker on December 29. She had her first tooth break through on Christmas morning and her second tooth yesterday, January 10. She also has been using a straw cup successfully and eats a variety of fun foods including sweet potatoes, green beans, turkey, cheddar cheese, and lemon muffins!
Gubby is a pistol. We had a ton of fun at his birthday (it was snowflake themed) and a bunch of his friends came over (it was quite funny-bunches of toddlers fighting over plastic lawnmowers, shovels, and wagons). He learns new words every day and tries to mimic nearly anything he hears. "Mommy hair out" (Mike was cleaning the sink), "Emmy through tunnel" (Rudi got the kids a tunnel to crawl through), "More crackers please"-well that one's self-explanatory. We try to play outside each day and go for walks regularly to check on our neighbor's chickens and her goat, Praline. We go to storytime on Wednesdays at the library and outings to the mall playground or Tom Brown Park as well. I splurged and got the kids these new "Sili Squeeze" containers that replace those nifty baby food purees that kids can squeeze so I could use my fantastic homemade stuff...neither kid has used 'em yet. Boohoo.
Christmas was wonderful. Mere and Pawpaw came to visit and we went and saw the lights at Dorothy B. Oven Park and had a blast Christmas morning as Emmy threw her hands up in delight in a pile of wrapping paper and tissue. Gubby helped everyone open their presents...whether you wanted help or not.
I had a fast paced job interview for a position similar to my work with MST but it will unlikely pan out as the pay would not meet the burden of childcare/transportation (it's really far from here)/not being with my littles...but we'll see. We should also hear back by early March if I've been accepted to FSU's doctoral program. Keep praying!
Needlework with HeArts is going well-managed to pull off handmade gifts for mostly everyone this Christmas and still get some charity work done. I need to get started on the kids stockings NOW.
Alright, here's what you REALLY came for!

Autumn Morning
We awoke to squeaks and squeals from Emmy around 7:15a (she only got up at midnight and 3:30pam last night!) and Gubby talking to his toy trains. I snuck out of the bedroom letting Mike sleep in for once and plucked them both out of their cribs and headed to the living room. After turning on the Mickey Mouse Twice Upon a Christmas DVD and flicking on the Christmas tree, I headed to the kitchen to start breakfast. Preheated the oven, mixed batter for chocolate muffins, and started Emmy's oatmeal. Here's the secret recipe:
1 cup puree pumpkin
1 cup puree apple (Galas work well)
1 cup oatmeal (use formula/breast milk)
Stir and heat, cover and refrigerate leftovers-use within 24 hours.
Normally I just put the pumpkin/apple mixture in one container and add oatmeal as I go-she loves it! Gubby likes the pumpkin/apple, we'll call it "papple", with cinnamon and oatmeal, too!
We ate breakfast, donned our cold weather clothes (each with our own knitted hat!) and went for a walk to deliver Gubby's birthday invite to a neighbor and talk to the chickens and goats nearby.
Mike is now outside with Gubby cutting firewood and loading the wheelbarrow for the next few days-we will finally use the wood stove tonight! Emmy is napping (for the time being) and I'm wrapping up loose ends for my doctoral application-nearly done!
It's been a good morning...hope it keeps up!!

Congratulations, Emily Elizabeth
Emily was officially welcomed to the Catholic Church on November 12, 2011. Though she was fighting an ear infection, strep rash, cutting teeth, clogged tear duct AND hadn't napped most of the day-she was a trooper. She even had a blessing of the sick preformed after the baptism. Ms. Christa Snyder served as her Godmother and my uncle Stephen Marens as her Godfather-my father stood in as his proxy as he lives in North Carolina. Don't fret, she's doing well now! Here's a few pictures of the weekend with our families in chilly Tallahassee.
